There are plenty of unpleasant things one might have to eat out of necessity, and the experience is over quickly. He balks, though, at mysterious wall eyes that don't seem to be connected to any living creature. The amount of questions this raises is distracting enough that he doesn't think to intervene until the boy is already biting down.
